Builds Engineer I The Builds Engineer I is responsible for designing, configuring, and deploying IT environments for clients, including setting up new workstations, laptops, servers, networking solutions, virtual machines, and cloud-based infrastructure. This role involves building custom environments based on client needs, automating deployments, and ensuring solutions are optimized for performance, scalability, and security. The Builds Engineer I works closely with technical and project management teams to deliver robust infrastructure solutions and contributes to the Company’s service offerings by providing high-quality, reliable build processes. Key Responsibilities:
Configure and deploy laptops, workstations, servers, network equipment, virtual machines, and cloud-based resources to meet client specifications.
Design and build custom IT environments tailored to client requirements, ensuring adherence to industry best practices.
Set up and configure systems for scalability, performance, and security, leveraging virtualization and cloud technologies where applicable.
Develop and implement automation scripts and workflows to streamline the build process, improve efficiency, and reduce manual effort.
Use configuration management tools (e.g., Immybot, Ansible, Puppet, or Terraform) to automate deployments and maintain consistency across environments.
Regularly review and optimize scripts and automation processes to ensure they align with changing technologies and client needs.
Conduct thorough testing of new builds, including performance benchmarking, security checks, and functionality tests.
Ensure that all deployments meet quality standards, and work closely with QA and support teams to identify and resolve any issues before client handover.
Document test results and communicate findings to internal teams to support continuous improvement.
Document build configurations, processes, and system architectures to ensure clarity and consistency for ongoing maintenance.
Maintain an internal knowledge base of build standards, troubleshooting steps, and best practices for use by the broader technical team.
Provide technical guidance and documentation to clients on build processes, usage instructions, and system maintenance tips.
Work closely with project managers, account managers, and client representatives to understand project requirements and client goals.
Participate in client discussions to provide insights on technical feasibility, deployment timelines, and resource needs.
Offer post-deployment support and troubleshoot issues related to newly deployed environments.
Propose and implement improvements to build processes, infrastructure design, and automation to enhance service delivery and efficiency.
Ensure that all builds comply with relevant security standards, client policies, and regulatory requirements.
Implement security best practices in system configuration, including network segmentation, firewalls, access controls, and data encryption.
Conduct regular audits of build processes to ensure they meet compliance standards and proactively address any vulnerabilities.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
1+ years of experience in infrastructure deployment, systems engineering, or build engineering within an MSP or IT services environment.
Proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Terraform).
Solid understanding of networking fundamentals, storage, and security best practices.
Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
